Background:
Kenya, especially the North Kenya – Somali borders, is going through a severe drought due to the lack of rain for four consecutive years, which has caused the land to dry and a lack of food for livestock.
Drought is a natural disaster that affects humans and animals and causes severe damage like famine and livestock loss—keeping in mind that livestock are the primary source of income for the people of North Kenya.
Last October, we went on an expedition in North Kenya, where we visited many villages most affected by the drought due to being in the desert, away from the cities.
According to the expedition team's (consisting of Geological and Mechanical engineers and Humanitarian and field-work professionals) evaluation of the difficult situation in Kenya, we will soon set off on our first relief mission in North Kenya.
Our goals in the following mission:
- Water wells.
- Food supplies.
- Electricity and lighting.
The lack of water forces people of poor villages to constantly think about how to get water to stay alive or water for drinking\cooking\showering.
Villagers are forced to walk 3-10 kilometers daily to obtain water from the nearest river, considering that the river is dirty and leads to many diseases and chronic health problems.
Food is a necessary and immediate solution to lessen the famine caused by the drought, which leads to livestock loss and a shortage of resources.
Regarding the lack of electricity... Let us imagine our lives at this moment without any source of electricity or lighting! We will work to provide electricity through solar panels.
